The Strut Jack

The Strut Jack:
While the Strut Jack is pretty much an “Off-the-shelf” item. There are a few modifications you will want to make so you can use it as an effective Guitar Repair Tool.
How To Use It:
The highest and best use of the Strut Jack is inside a guitar body. If you determine that the guitar has a loose or broken brace, this can be a very effective tool to prop-up the brace.
It works very simply by screwing the top portion of the jack counter-clockwise, it raises the threaded bolt with the swivel head on top. You can use the enclosed wrench handle to easily adjust the height.
Modifications:
Although it is not required that you make modifications directly to the jack or the screw itself, you will want to add a few fixtures to the device.
First of all you will want to be able to quickly position the jack beneath the the loose or broken brace and apply upward pressure. Since the braces are usually quite thin and tall, you will want to apply a fitted caul to the top of the Screw Jack.

This can simply be a piece of hardwood or cabinet grade plywood. Trench a channel through the center of the caul so it fits snugly over the brace in question. Now drill a Depression with a bit such as a Forstner Drill Bit so the caul fits over the round head of the Screw Jack.
Hold in place with a dab of a self-releasing glue, because you will want to make several of these cauls for each different brace.
Where Can I Get One?
Grizzly make a great little Screw Jack Set for only $15.95. It includes several adapter that you will not use for guitar repair, but you may for other work around the house..
